Volta Minister Designate Unveils Bold Plan to Boost Regional Tourism.

James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister designate, has outlined an ambitious vision to unlock the region’s tourism potential by improving accessibility to its attractions. Gunu emphasized that the Volta Region, rich in natural beauty and culture, remains an underutilized hub for tourism. His plan includes collaborating with the Ministries of Tourism, Roads, and the Regional Coordinating Council to improve infrastructure, particularly the road network, which will open up more tourist destinations and enhance the region’s economy.

Gunu is also focused on transforming agriculture, with a special focus on reviving tomato farming through investor partnerships to establish processing facilities, reducing post-harvest losses and adding value to local produce. In terms of security, Gunu pledged to prioritize peace by implementing early warning systems, and he expressed concern over the impact of tidal waves on coastal communities, promising to work with stakeholders to protect them.

To tackle the region’s poor road network, which he described as a personal passion, Gunu aims to ensure better access to markets and services for farmers and traders. He also plans to strengthen district assemblies’ capacities in planning and revenue collection to further support local development.
