Ho Central NDC Youth Protest Over Ministerial Appointment ‘Snub’.

A group of irate youth, reportedly affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ho Central constituency, engaged in a violent protest Tuesday evening, expressing anger over a perceived ministerial appointment snub by President Mahama.

Incident Details

The protesters broke into the party office at Ho Housing, vandalized furniture and documents, and set them on fire. Burning tires on the main road further heightened the chaos. The Ghana Fire Service intervened promptly, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby businesses. The perpetrators fled the scene as curious onlookers gathered.

Reasons for the Protest

The youth claimed disappointment after the constituency—one of the NDC’s top contributors to votes in the Volta Region during the 2024 elections—was left out of recent ministerial appointments. They felt their efforts deserved recognition through at least one high-profile appointment.

Reactions from Party Leadership

Theophilus Adzanku, an NDC member in the constituency, condemned the incident, labeling it “immature and undemocratic.” He emphasized that the President had made significant appointments from the Volta Region, urging calm while investigations are underway.

“We know the President values Ho Central. There was no need for this lawlessness, and we are very disappointed,” Adzanku stated.

He further assured the public that the party and security agencies would identify and prosecute those responsible.

Calls for Calm

Party leaders have called on members to remain patient and use appropriate channels to address grievances, warning against actions that could tarnish the NDC’s image.
