Obuasi Schools Remain Closed Amidst Violent Clashes – Ashanti Minister Nominee.

Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister nominee, has stated that schools in Obuasi will only reopen once peace and safety are assured. This decision follows violent clashes between illegal miners and military personnel guarding AngloGold Ashanti’s Obuasi Mine, resulting in nine fatalities.

In response to the unrest, both public and private schools have been temporarily shut down. Students have been instructed to stay home for their safety, even as authorities increase security presence in the area.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, Dr. Amoakohene emphasized the government’s commitment to resolving the conflict and restoring normalcy. “The safety and well-being of our students are our top priority,” he said, adding that schools would reopen when peace is fully restored and the community feels secure.

The government is working closely with local stakeholders to address the situation and ensure that residents can resume their daily activities safely.
