K.T. Hammond, former MP for Adansi Asokwa, has filed a defamation lawsuit against broadcaster Captain Smart. The suit stems from remarks made during an Onua TV broadcast, accusing Hammond of making tribal comments about a rival’s election win.
The controversy followed Hammond’s loss in the December 2024 parliamentary elections to NDC’s Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani. Captain Smart and his co-host attributed the alleged tribal remarks to Hammond, who has denied the accusations, stating that they tarnish his reputation and paint him as a tribalist unwilling to accept defeat.
Hammond seeks damages, an injunction on further defamatory remarks, a public apology, removal of defamatory content, and coverage of legal costs.
