Gunmen ambushed a cargo truck traveling under military escort in Bawku’s Missiga suburb on January 16. The truck, en route from Kulungugu to Bawku township, was fired upon by attackers hiding nearby before they fled the scene.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Despite the attack, military officials in Bawku have declined to comment but have not denied the incident.
This event underscores the ongoing insecurity in Bawku, where similar assaults on vehicles, even under escort, are frequent. These incidents are linked to the long-standing chieftaincy conflict between the Kusasi and Mamprusi factions in the Upper East Region.
