Kpandai Farmer Appeals for Help After Losing GH¢7,000 Yam Harvest in Mysterious Fire.

A devastating fire has left 35-year-old farmer Sampson Nakuwu and his family in Kpandai, Northern Region, reeling after losing their entire yam harvest. The fire destroyed over 1,400 tubers of yam and more than 5,000 yam sets just before the new year, wiping out an investment of GH¢7,000.

Nakuwu, speaking to Graphic Online, recounted the traumatic incident, saying, “I was somewhere harvesting yam, and before I could realize it, the whole shed was on fire. Two children were rescued from the shed, but I don’t know what caused the fire.”

The loss has left him unable to repay the loan he took to finance his farm. With his family of seven facing financial hardship, Nakuwu expressed concern about how to rebuild his life.

“This was supposed to be a time of joy, but instead, it has brought misery. Without help, I don’t know how to start life in 2025,” he lamented.

Despite the setback, Nakuwu urged young people to pursue farming, emphasizing its potential rewards. He also appealed to individuals, organizations, and the government for urgent assistance to restart his farming venture and support his family.

The incident highlights the vulnerabilities faced by farmers and the need for stronger support systems to protect their investments and livelihoods.
