Mahama Promises Lower Hajj Costs and Hijab Protection for Muslims.

President John Dramani Mahama has pledged significant support to Ghana’s Muslim community during the National Muslim Prayer and Thanksgiving service at the National Mosque in Accra. Key commitments include reducing Hajj fares through a five-member task force led by Collins Dauda, which will work to lower costs at the upcoming Hajj Conference.

Mahama also announced plans to amend the Holidays Act, granting an additional day off for Eid-ul-Fitr, ensuring two holidays for Sallah celebrations. He reaffirmed his support for religious freedom by promising to protect the right of Muslim women to wear the hijab in public spaces.

Other initiatives include scholarships for students from deprived Muslim communities, especially in fields like medicine and ICT, increasing Arabic teachers, establishing a microcredit fund (Soiya Fund) for underprivileged families, and introducing Islamic banking instruments to Ghana’s financial system.

These promises, inspired by the Muslim manifesto presented during his campaign, aim to foster inclusivity and support for the Muslim community.
