65-Year-Old Honored with a Car for Walking to Mahama’s Inauguration.

Alhaji Ayaana Yakubu, a 65-year-old man who reportedly walked from Kumasi to Accra to celebrate President John Dramani Mahama’s inauguration, has been rewarded for his symbolic act of patriotism.

An anonymous philanthropist presented Alhaji Ayaana with a brand-new Renault KWID car, cash, and shopping vouchers worth GH₵5,000. The presentation took place on January 8, 2025, at Independence Square, facilitated by broadcaster Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD).

KOD shared the event on Instagram, celebrating Alhaji Ayaana’s dedication and resilience. However, GraphicOnline noted that the claim of walking the entire route remains unverified.

Alhaji Ayaana is known for similar patriotic acts, including a walk to commemorate former President Jerry John Rawlings’ 1997 inauguration and a 1999 peace and health walk in Tamale.

Expressing gratitude, Alhaji Ayaana acknowledged the challenges, including concerns from his children about his health, but emphasized his determination to celebrate Ghana’s democracy.
