John Dumelo Rejects Push for Creative Industry Leaders as Tourism Ministers.

Renowned actor and Ayawaso West Wuogon MP, John Dumelo, has dismissed the idea of reserving the Tourism Ministry for creatives, arguing that the role requires a visionary leader who prioritizes the welfare of the creative sector.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, Dumelo expressed his respect for the position of his colleagues but emphasized the importance of competence over industry affiliation. He believes the decision should be left to President John Mahama, inaugurated on January 7, 2025.

The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture was established in 2013 under Mahama to unite tourism, arts, and culture. While some creatives previously held roles in the ministry, Dumelo insists that effective leadership transcends being part of the creative fraternity.

His comments come amidst fresh advocacy from creatives to appoint one of their own to the ministry. Dumelo, however, pledged to uphold the NDC manifesto’s vision for the sector while focusing on its growth.
