The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has closed Terminal 1 at Kotoka International Airport, operated by McDan Aviation, due to an outstanding debt of $3.9 million and GH¢13,523 owed since 2020. Despite a recent partial payment of GH¢2 million on December 24, 2024, GACL insists on full payment before reopening the terminal.
The GACL explained in a statement that McDan’s default spans several years, including unpaid ground rent for commercial buildings developed on GACL land since 2015. Additionally, McDan owes a 15% gross revenue share for services rendered from September 2022 to November 2024.
GACL revealed that four other companies have also faced shutdowns for non-payment, emphasizing its resolve to retrieve all outstanding debts.
