The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed 35 deaths and over 4,150 suspected cholera cases since an outbreak began in October 2024. The Western Region has been the hardest hit, with 17 deaths, many occurring within 24 hours of hospital admission.
A vaccination campaign in hotspots like Awutu Senya East and Sekondi-Takoradi has helped reduce new cases, with over 660,000 people vaccinated by mid-December. Public health efforts include emergency response teams, hygiene education, and oral rehydration centers to treat mild cases.
The GHS urges the public to prioritize hygiene and safe water use during the festive season, as health workers and stakeholders continue to battle the outbreak.
