Ghanaian media personality and singer Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum has completed an impressive 121-hour singing marathon in her second attempt at setting a Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual. The event, which took place at Heroes’ Park in the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi, started on December 21 and ended on December 25, 2024.
Details of the Achievement:
The 34-year-old performed over 200 Ghanaian songs, representing gospel, highlife, afrobeat, and hiplife genres. Her effort not only showcased remarkable stamina but also celebrated Ghana’s rich musical heritage.
Following a previous attempt in 2023, where she sang for 126 hours but fell short of meeting Guinness World Records requirements, Afua Asantewaa remains optimistic about the verification process for this attempt.
Verification Process:
Afua and her team will submit evidence of her performance to Guinness World Records for review. The organization will assess the attempt and determine whether it qualifies as a new record. The current record is held by India’s Sunil Waghmare, with 105 hours of continuous singing.
Support and Gratitude:
Afua credited her success to her dedicated team, including her manager Gladys Osei Owiredu and her husband, Kofi Owusu Aduonum, who serves as the Head of PR. Sponsors such as Ike’s Café & Grill, Zoomlion, Ghana Gas, and others provided support for the event.
Speaking after the marathon, Afua expressed fulfillment, saying, “I succeeded in promoting Ghanaian songs, and I’m proud of this accomplishment.”
Cultural Significance:
The event underscores the importance of promoting Ghanaian culture and music on a global stage, with Afua Asantewaa emerging as a symbol of resilience and cultural pride.
