Edo Police Spokesperson CSP Moses Yamu clarified that the suspects were hunters, not herdsmen, countering social media reports that had fueled ethnic tensions.
“They were intercepted by the Edo Security Network with concealed weapons. Preliminary investigation reveals they are from Doguwa, Kano State, and were heading to Uvbe Community in Orhionmwon LGA for hunting purposes. Investigations are ongoing.”

This arrest follows the lynching of 16 Kano hunters in Uromi weeks earlier, who were traveling for Sallah celebrations before being attacked by a mob. The incident had triggered nationwide outrage, heightening fears of inter-ethnic violence.
