Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, the Chief Fire Officer and Director-General of the Ghana National Fire Service, has expressed deep appreciation to John Dramani Mahama for appointing her to lead the service.
Speaking in an interview on Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM, Madam Ntow Sarpong also extended her gratitude to Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang and the governing National Democratic Congress for the confidence placed in her leadership.
“I want to use this opportunity to thank President Mahama, Vice President Prof. Jane Naana, and the entire NDC government for the confidence reposed in me and for honouring me with this leadership role,” she said.
Commitment to Serve
The Fire Chief pledged to meet the expectations attached to the position, assuring both government and the public of her dedication to the role.
“I pledge to fulfil my mandate and discharge my duties as expected. I will not disappoint them,” she stated.
A Career Built Through the Ranks
Reflecting on her professional journey, Ntow Sarpong explained that her appointment follows decades of service and steady progress within the fire service.
According to her, she joined the service in 1992 and has since undergone several professional training programmes, interviews and promotions that helped shape her career.
“I won’t say my rise was sudden because I have gone through the mill. Since 1992, I have risen through the ranks, gone for interviews, and undertaken courses,” she explained.
She added that she once served as second-in-command within the service, making her the natural successor to the top position.
“That is why the recognition by President Mahama is particularly meaningful. At a point, I was second in command, the next in line, and I am grateful to him for acknowledging that and honouring me,” she said.
Breaking Gender Barriers
Madam Ntow Sarpong also commended President Mahama for showing confidence in her leadership despite longstanding perceptions about gender roles within security institutions.
“He wasn’t hesitant because I am a woman,” she noted.
She assured that under her leadership, the Ghana National Fire Service will continue strengthening its operations and improving public understanding of the crucial role firefighters play in protecting lives and property.
“I will make the Fire Service proud and also help the nation appreciate the work we do as fire personnel,” she concluded.
