Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has assured Ghanaians that the budget for the Black Stars’ recent World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar will be disclosed at the appropriate time.
During his February State of the Nation Address, President John Mahama underscored the importance of transparency in national sports, directing that budgets for the national teams be made public.
He also tasked the Ministry of Sports with ensuring the Ghana Football Association (GFA) accounts for expenditures related to the two qualifying fixtures.
However, more than three weeks after the matches were played, the Ministry is yet to release the financial details, sparking criticism from the public and the media.
Responding to the concerns in an interview with Channel One News, Minister Adams dismissed suggestions of concealment and reiterated his commitment to accountability.
“You will know it when the time comes,” the Buem Constituency MP said. “I’m saying that I will make it public. Has the National Team ceased playing?”
He further clarified that with future fixtures approaching — including Ghana’s next World Cup qualifiers in September — releasing a draft budget now would be premature.
“We have the next assignment in September; we have matches that we’re going to play, and we will surely make it public. It will be unfair to make a draft budget public, I’m not hiding it,” Adams stressed.
The Black Stars are scheduled to return to action in September for Matchdays 7 and 8 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, with fixtures against Chad and Mali.
Under head coach Otto Addo, Ghana currently sits atop Group I with 15 points, three points clear of second-placed Comoros.
