The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has urged actors involved in the process of the removal from office of the Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Araba Torkonoo, to let the rule of law be their guiding principles.
This was contained in a statement signed and issued by the National President of the GBA, Efua Ghartey and Kwaku Gyau Baffour, National Secretary of GBA.It said that the exercise of discretion as provided by Article 296 of the Constitution, 1992 was important in enhancing the independence and image of the Judiciary.“It is expected that persons who play even the minutest role in this process will bear in mind Article 296 of the 1992 Constitution on the exercise of discretion and will act in a manner that safeguards and enhances the independence and image of the Judiciary,” the statement added.

Accra High Court strikes out motion against anti-galamsey protest
An Accra High Court has struck out a motion filed by the Ghana Police Service that sought to prohibit a planned protest against illegal mining in Ghana. The court’s decision followed a request by Assistant State Attorney David Bachem, acting on the orders of the Attorney General, to withdraw the motion. This latest ruling clears the way for the anti-galamsey protest, which is set to take place on April 28, 2025. One of the conveners of the protest, media personality Okatakyie Afrifa, described the initial motion to prohibit the protest as a move made in bad faith. The protest will begin at Obra Spot near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, proceed through the Ring Road, and conclude at the Liberation Square opposite the Jubilee House. The Minority Caucus on Health has expressed concern over the suspension of emergency and outpatient services at Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH). The strike action, which began on Thursday, April 24, 2025, is in protest of what the doctors describe as a hostile working environment, lack of basic medical supplies, and mistreatment by senior government officials. 34-year-old taxi driver arrested for allegedly killing his 23-year-old girlfriend
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a 34-year-old taxi driver over the alleged murder of his long-time girlfriend at Abuakwa in the Ashanti Region. Robert Kwabena Boamah was arrested at his hideout in Namong, Offinso Municipality, on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, three days after he went into hiding. He is alleged to have picked up the deceased, 23-year-old Dorothy Owusu Annor, also known as Maa Abena, on April 21 in his taxi cab from her family’s house at Abuakwa. The police say that shortly after the two left the deceased’s family house to bake bread, they received a distress call about the discovery of a body of an unidentified female adult.
