Air Peace Adds Direct Abuja–Heathrow Route From October 26
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development , Festus Keyamo , has announced that Air Peace will launch direct international flights from Abuja to London Heathrow Airport on October 26, 2024 .
This was revealed in a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood .
The new route marks a major step forward for Nigerian aviation and supports President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda , which promotes global competitiveness for Nigerian businesses.
Diplomacy Secures Crucial Heathrow Slot
Keyamo said this milestone followed strong diplomatic pressure from Nigeria on the UK government after months of negotiation.
In a firm letter sent to the UK Transport Secretary, Louise Haigh , on August 1, 2024 , Nigeria warned of possible reciprocal action if British airlines operating in Nigeria were not matched with equal access for Nigerian carriers in the UK.
“We are only enforcing our rights under the Bilateral Air Services Agreement,” he stated.
After months of talks, the UK finally granted Air Peace its slot at Heathrow , one of the world’s busiest airports.
“This is a win for Air Peace—and a diplomatic win for Nigeria.”
Fulfills Renewed Hope Agenda on Global Competitiveness
The minister said the move aligns with President Tinubu’s focus on creating opportunities for Nigerian companies abroad.
Air Peace first entered the UK market in March 2024 , launching direct flights from Lagos to Gatwick Airport , offering more affordable fares than many foreign carriers.
Now, with access to Heathrow , the airline expands its reach and offers more convenience to travelers from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and northern Nigeria.
“This gives Nigerian passengers better options and stronger connectivity to Europe.”
Breaking Barriers With Affordable Fares
Since entering the UK market, Air Peace has disrupted pricing norms by offering significantly lower fares:
- Economy class: Starting at ₦1.2 million (vs. ₦3–5 million charged by others)
- Business class: Starting at ₦4.5 million , making premium travel more accessible
With the new Abuja–Heathrow route , the airline strengthens its position as a growing force in transcontinental air travel.
