A senior member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Novihoho Afaglo, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to extend the mandate of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) task force to further investigate corruption cases linked to former officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
Afaglo praised the joint work of ORAL and the Attorney-General’s Department, calling their partnership vital in exposing alleged financial irregularities and misuse of state resources meant for national development.
He stated that without ORAL’s vigilance, “Nana Akufo-Addo’s appointees could have stolen millions from the state unnoticed.” According to him, ongoing investigations initiated under Mahama’s administration have already revealed “significant wrongdoing that cannot be ignored.”
Afaglo stressed that the current wave of revelations should serve as a warning to all serving public officials, urging them to remember that their roles are meant to uplift citizens, not deprive them of economic opportunities.
“The work of ORAL and the corruption being uncovered should remind current leaders that their duty is to improve the lives of Ghanaians, not to plunder the nation,” he said.
He appealed to President Mahama to empower ORAL with more authority and resources to complete its investigations and ensure that all individuals implicated in corruption face justice.
“President Mahama should extend ORAL’s operations to expose more wrongdoing by former government officials and let the law take its full course,” Afaglo added.
He also called on Ghanaian citizens to support the President, the Attorney-General, and the ORAL task force in their ongoing fight against corruption.
In a sharp criticism of the previous administration, Afaglo said, “President Mahama will not act as a clearing agent like Nana Akufo-Addo, who cleared his appointees whenever corruption allegations surfaced.”
He reaffirmed that the Mahama administration remains committed to transparency, accountability, and responsible management of public funds to ensure progress for all Ghanaians.
