Illegal Mining Threat Looms at Neung South Forest Reserve.
Unidentified illegal miners are reportedly planning to invade the Neung South Forest Reserve in Tarkwa, Western Region. Eyewitnesses have spotted excavators and a washing plant stationed roughly 700 meters from the reserve. The miners have allegedly erected barriers to block Forestry Commission (FC) staff from entering the area, accusing them of inaction after a miner was allegedly killed by concession guards from Messrs. Kapsord Mining Limited.Previously dominated by illegal miners, the area is now under the protection of Kapsord Mining, which has set up a security post. Tensions escalated after unknown individuals torched the post following clashes between concession guards and illegal miners. Armed men in military uniforms were later seen speeding toward the reserve, adding to the growing threat.
