 For many years, smallholder farmers in Ghana’s transitional zone have depended solely on agriculture for their livelihood, with few alternative options. This reliance on farming, coupled with low crop yields and the risk of bushfires, has often left these farmers in a vulnerable position financially.To alleviate their struggles, two environmental protection NGOs, EcoCare Ghana and Tropenbos Ghana, introduced the LEAN (Landscapes and Environmental Agility Across the Nation) project. Over the last four years, this initiative has significantly improved farmers’ income and curbed the recurring bushfire problems.
