The Ghanaian government has officially refuted claims that Islamist militants from Burkina Faso are using parts of northern Ghana as hidden logistical or medical bases. This response follows reports that these militants may be utilizing Ghanaian territory to support insurgent activities across the border. According to Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, the government’s security spokesperson, cross-border activities with Burkina Faso are largely trade-related, with no evidence indicating militant exploitation of Ghanaian lands.
On October 25, 2024, Mr. Boakye-Danquah assured the public that Ghana’s security forces are fully committed to safeguarding the country’s northern borders, monitoring the area closely, and ensuring no spillover from Burkina Faso’s security issues. He emphasized that these allegations are unsubstantiated and encouraged citizens to trust in the government’s dedication to national security.
