National Security operatives in Ghana’s Western Region have uncovered stolen Electrical Company of Ghana (ECG) equipment in two locations in the Kansaworado area, a suburb of Sekondi-Takoradi. The discovery follows the ongoing investigation into over 1,300 missing ECG containers from the Tema Port.
In an uncompleted building, security officials found seven drums of fiber and aluminium cables, 100 boxes of single-phase meter enclosures, and various electrical tools. The equipment had been released by MBH Power to Hegmic Co. Ltd. for electrification work under the ECG’s Loss Reduction Program (LRP). However, Evans Lartey, a supervisor at MBH Power, confirmed that the company has proper documentation for these items.
At a second site, located a short distance from a private residence, 41 drums of aluminium cables and five used cables were found abandoned in the bush. The individual responsible for storing the items at this site remains unidentified.
Hashem Tanko Nuhu of National Security stated that they would confiscate the equipment for further investigation. There are concerns about how the equipment ended up at a private residence, with local residents unaware of the ownership of the items.
A source from ECG confirmed the company’s contract with MBH Power but did not clarify the procedures for storing supplies at private locations. The investigation is ongoing, and National Security is awaiting further instructions.
