WAEC Arrests 16 Over 2025 BECE Malpractice, Including 12 Invigilators

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has confirmed the arrest of 16 individuals for malpractice during the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). Those arrested include 12 invigilators, one supervisor, and three outsiders involved in leaking exam content. 1. Nature of the Offences According to WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, the invigilators were caught taking snapshots of exam questions and sharing them with accomplices to aid candidates. Investigations are ongoing into other reported incidents of malpractice during the exam period. 2.
