1 in 10 Girls Had Sex Before 15 – GSS Report.

A recent report from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), based on the 2022 Ghana Demographic and Health Survey, has revealed that one in every ten adolescent girls (10-19 years) engaged in sexual activity before the age of 15. This accounts for 10.2% of the adolescent population, which makes up 22% of Ghana’s total population. Despite a slight decline from 12% in 1993, the progress over 29 years remains minimal.The report, titled “Adolescent Risky Behaviour,” also highlighted that 15.2% of teenage girls had experienced pregnancy, 4% had pregnancy losses, and 10.9% had become mothers. Alarmingly, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among female adolescents aged 15-19 rose from 2.2% in 2003 to 7.1% in 2022.
