Mahama Pledges Action on Sea Defence After Tidal Wave Devastation

President John Mahama marked Ghana’s Independence Day with a visit to Agavedzi and other coastal communities in the Ketu South District, which were severely affected by recent tidal waves. He inspected the damage, provided relief items, and assured residents that he would push for the completion of the long-stalled Blekusu Sea Defence Project.During the visit, Mahama criticized an abandoned resettlement project by Ghana Gas, calling it inadequate. Over 300 people have been impacted by the disaster, with 50 homes destroyed along an 80-kilometer coastline. To support victims, Mahama donated essential supplies, while his brother, Ibrahim Mahama, and the Volta Region NDC caucus contributed GH₵200,000. Local chiefs voiced frustration over years of neglect, urging immediate action. In response, Mahama promised to ensure funding for the project in the 2025 budget.
