World Asthma Day commemorated with call for access to treatment
On May 6, 2025, World Asthma Day was commemorated globally under the theme “Make Inhaled Treatments Accessible for ALL,” spotlighting the urgent need to address disparities in asthma care and ensure equitable access to life-saving medications. A Global Health Priority Asthma affects over 260 million people worldwide and is responsible for more than 450,000 deaths annually, with the majority occurring in low- and middle-income countries. Despite the availability of effective treatments, many individuals lack access to essential inhaled medications due to high costs and limited availability. Global Initiatives and Advocacy The Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) and the Forum of International Respiratory Societies (FIRS) have launched campaigns to raise awareness and advocate for increased access to inhaled treatments.
