NAF Vows to Protect Every Inch of Nigerian Airspace
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has renewed its pledge to defend the nation’s airspace and protect lives and property across the country.
Speaking during the Second Quarter Route March in Abuja on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 , Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar , made it clear that national security remains the NAF’s top priority.
“We will continue to defend every inch of our nation’s airspace and stand firm in joint operations to protect lives and property across the country,” he declared.
Abubakar also issued a stern warning to insurgents, terrorists, and bandits:
“There will be no hiding place for those who threaten the peace and stability of Nigeria. We are coming for you. We will find you and take you out.”
Physical Fitness Becomes Mandatory for Promotion
To ensure operational readiness, Air Marshal Abubakar emphasized the importance of physical fitness among NAF personnel.
He stated that being fit is no longer optional—it is a must.
“Physical fitness is no longer a matter of choice; it is a non-negotiable requirement.”
He announced new policies, including:
- All Performance Evaluation Reports must now include a Physical Fitness Test Certificate
- Personnel must be medically and physically fit to qualify for promotion
Additionally, the CAS revealed plans to build modern sporting facilities at several NAF bases and procure advanced gym equipment for over 22 units—set to be installed soon.
Route March Symbolizes Discipline and National Purpose
Air Marshal Abubakar linked the quarterly route march to the broader mission of the NAF: achieving lasting peace and national security.
“Be that as it may, those who persevere, who stay the course with discipline, focus, and resilience, will ultimately arrive at the destination.”
He described the march not just as a military exercise but as a symbol of purpose and honor.
“Let today’s route march rekindle our fighting spirit and reinforce our shared commitment to the defence of Nigeria.”
The march, held across all NAF units, aims to:
- Build endurance and teamwork
- Maintain high levels of physical readiness
- Showcase the NAF’s vigilance and capability to the public and adversaries alike
Appreciation for Presidential Support
Air Marshal Abubakar expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his continued support to the Armed Forces.
He specifically praised the President’s investment in enhancing the NAF’s operational capabilities and improving welfare conditions for service members.
