The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is set to launch a new pre-payment system for non-smart prepaid meter users in the Volta Region. The system will allow customers to purchase credit conveniently using a Brassica prepaid card reader and the Brassica App, eliminating the need to visit vendors.
Christina Kaleo-Jatoe, ECG’s General Manager for the Volta and Oti Regions, announced that the pilot will start in the first quarter of 2025 with 200 meters in the Ho and Hohoe districts. This move is part of ECG’s efforts to resolve issues faced by clients, especially during odd hours.
The initiative relies on internet connectivity and will eventually expand across the region based on network strength. Customers will use mobile money wallets through the app to purchase credit seamlessly.
Additionally, ECG is undertaking infrastructure upgrades in the Volta and Oti Regions to ensure reliable power supply.
