The National Service Authority (NSA) is joining forces with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to establish ranches across the country to enhance livestock farming. This initiative is part of the NSA’s “Harnessing Agricultural Productivity and Prosperity for Youth (HAPPY)” program, which aims to empower graduates through agribusiness.
Speaking at the Pentecost Convention Centre during an orientation for 500 young graduates, NSA Director-General Osei Assibey Antwi outlined the program’s goals: increasing cattle production, creating jobs, and reducing reliance on imported meat and dairy products. The program involves partnerships with leading agricultural organizations like Agri-Impact Limited and other stakeholders.
Graduates will be trained in agribusiness and stationed in farming zones such as Sekyere Kumawu. They’ll receive mentorship, tools, and access to resources to start their own ventures. The project aims to cultivate 20,000 hectares of land, provide over 320,000 jobs (with 70% reserved for women and persons with disabilities), and save Ghana $2 billion annually on food imports.
To further support participants, the NSA has partnered with Alliance Française to offer free French lessons, helping young professionals increase their employability in Ghana’s Francophone-dominated region.
The program is expected to significantly boost food production, strengthen Ghana’s agricultural sector, and empower youth to become self-reliant entrepreneurs.
