Daniel Owusu Koranteng, a businessman accused in the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale, has had his bail application rejected by the Madina District Court. Koranteng was remanded into police custody until his next court appearance on April 17, 2025, after prosecutors amended the charges against him.
In his second court appearance on April 2, 2025, the 35-year-old was informed of the revised charges, which now include abetment of crime and murder. Previously, he was only charged with murder.
Koranteng is accused of working with two others, who remain at large, to commit the crime of murder. He is alleged to have played a role in the death of Ahmed Suale, a journalist known for his work with the investigative team Tiger Eye P.I. led by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
The prosecution outlined that Koranteng had an intimate relationship with Suale and his family before the latter’s death. The case details also suggest that the accused was involved in an incident from 2018, when former MP Kennedy Agyapong broadcasted images of Suale, calling for violence against him. The deceased had confronted Koranteng over his role in sharing these images with Agyapong.
The court heard that Koranteng had knowledge of Suale’s residence and was allegedly involved in guiding two other perpetrators to Suale’s home on January 16, 2019, the day he was murdered. Following the crime, Koranteng reportedly fled to the United Kingdom before returning to Ghana in 2025, where he was arrested.
Koranteng’s defense counsel argued that there was no solid evidence linking him to the crime and highlighted that he had been denied police enquiry bail since March 12, 2025.
Prosecutors also revealed that Koranteng had used someone else’s National Identification Authority card to change his SIM card details in an attempt to evade police detection. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts to apprehend the other suspects involved in the murder.
