The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued an immediate recall of Grand Chateaux Sangria Forte, specifically the Tetra Pak 250ml and Canned 330ml Petillante variants, from the Ghanaian market due to safety concerns.
The recall comes after the FDA determined that the products violated sections 97, 98, and 103 of the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 859), as they were unregistered, making their sale and distribution illegal. Additionally, the FDA noted that the packaging and product size were deceptive, posing a potential risk of accidental alcohol ingestion by children, which could be harmful to their health and safety.
Consumers have been warned not to purchase or consume these products, and retailers and wholesalers are instructed to cease distribution and sale immediately. All remaining stocks should be returned to the nearest outlets of Cave and Garden Ghana Limited, as well as FDA offices nationwide.
The FDA has taken steps to impose sanctions on the importer and is ensuring that regulatory measures are enforced. The public is urged to report any sale of these products through the FDA’s official website or hotline.
The FDA reiterated its commitment to protecting public health and safety.
