President John Dramani Mahama has confirmed that his official X (formerly Twitter) account (@JDMahama) has been successfully restored after being compromised on March 16, 2025. The hack involved the unauthorized promotion of a cryptocurrency scam, Solana Africa, which falsely claimed to be led by Mahama and promised free payments across Africa via the Solana blockchain.
In a statement, President Mahama expressed his gratitude for the support received during the incident, thanking both the public and his team for their efforts in regaining control of the account. He shared that, in collaboration with X support, his team managed to restore the account.
The first signs of the hack appeared when the account began posting promotional material about Solanafrica, which led to widespread concern. President Mahama also acknowledged the Cyber Security Authority’s involvement in addressing the breach and working with relevant parties to prevent future issues.
The incident has raised awareness about the vulnerability of high-profile social media accounts and the importance of cybersecurity in combating online fraud.
