IMANI Cautions Mahama: Don’t Sack IGP Dampare

Prominent members of IMANI Africa, including Vice President Kofi Bentil and Founding President Franklin Cudjoe, have warned President John Dramani Mahama against dismissing the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

Kofi Bentil, in a Facebook post, compared the situation to the controversial removal of former Auditor-General Daniel Domelevo under the previous government. He urged Mahama to avoid repeating past mistakes and respect due process. Bentil emphasized that Dr. Dampare has been professional and effective in his role, and removing him without cause would set a bad precedent.

Franklin Cudjoe also defended Dampare’s leadership, calling him a “consummate professional” who has significantly improved the Ghana Police Service. He stressed the need to prioritize competence over political interests, warning that Ghana must not sacrifice professionalism for partisanship.

Both IMANI leaders called on Mahama to wait for the Supreme Court’s ruling on May 7, 2025, before making any decisions regarding the IGP’s position.
