Parliament Probes MP Over ‘Daughter of a Murderer’ Remark

Ghana’s Parliament has launched an investigation to identify the MP responsible for making an offensive remark against Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle. During a heated debate on February 4, an unidentified MP shouted, “Daughter of a murderer, sit down!”, in reference to Dr. Rawlings, whose father was the late former President Jerry John Rawlings.

On March 4, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin formally apologized to Dr. Zanetor, her family, and the Anlo people, condemning the remark as dishonorable and unworthy of a lawmaker. He also warned that if the MP behind the comment does not come forward within a week, harsher sanctions will follow.

The investigation is ongoing, with Parliament vowing to maintain discipline and dignity in its proceedings.
