The Western Regional Ambulance Service has responded to 1,842 distress calls over the past year, including 232 maternal-related emergencies. Despite their efforts, the service faces significant challenges due to inadequate resources.
According to Regional Manager Mr. F.B. Manu, the service operates with 21 ambulances, two of which are currently under repair. Additionally, staff shortages and a lack of proper office space hinder operations. Some stations, including Takoradi, Daboase, and Amenfi Central, are forced to operate from the regional headquarters due to a lack of dedicated offices.
The regional dispatch center is also struggling with limited space and inadequate facilities, making it difficult to coordinate emergency calls effectively. Administrative operations are confined to a single room, further impacting efficiency.
During a meeting with Western Regional Minister Hon. Joseph Nelson, Mr. Manu appealed for support in addressing these challenges, emphasizing the need for better facilities and more personnel. In response, the minister acknowledged their struggles and assured them of his commitment to finding solutions.
Despite the obstacles, the ambulance service remains dedicated to saving lives and hopes that with the right support, it can continue to deliver essential emergency medical care to the region.
