The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) expects a reduction in power losses in the Ashanti Region as the Anwomaso electricity generation hub nears completion. The site hosts multiple power plants, including those by Aksa Energy, CENIT Energy, and the KITPP (formerly AMERI), with Genser providing gas supply.
ECG’s Ashanti West PRO, Benjamin Obeng Antwi, highlighted that the new hub will improve power supply in the region and reduce transmission losses, as electricity will no longer need to be transported from Tema or the Western Region.
Aksa Energy is set to add 250MW to the national grid, with phase one ready by May 2025 and phase two by year-end. CENIT Energy is expected to generate 330MW, with 110MW available in the third quarter. The relocation of the Ameri plant to Kumasi is also scheduled for completion by July.
ECG’s Director of New Business and Risk Management, Ebenezer Baiden, urged power companies to adhere to local content laws and promote gender balance in employment, ensuring that the local community benefits from the project.
