Ketu South on the Brink: Tidal Waves Threaten to Cut Off Coastal Towns

Coastal communities in the Ketu South Municipality, including Salakope, Agavedzi, and Amutsinu, are on the verge of isolation as the sea inches dangerously close to the main road linking Denu and Keta. With less than five meters separating the ocean from the crucial highway, residents fear they could soon be cut off from essential services.

Over the past few months, the situation has escalated dramatically, with entire homes swallowed by the relentless waves. Many residents have been displaced, forced to seek refuge with friends and relatives, while others have nowhere to go.

The affected communities have repeatedly called for urgent intervention, expressing frustration over unfulfilled promises and short-term relief efforts that fail to address the root cause of the problem. The incomplete Phase Two of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project has left them even more vulnerable to destruction.

Residents are now demanding immediate government action, warning that if nothing is done, businesses, schools, transportation, and healthcare services in the area will face severe disruptions. Experts have also sounded the alarm, stressing the need for swift intervention to prevent a total disaster.
