Veteran Actor Mawuli Semevo Passes Away After Fire Accident

Renowned Ghanaian actor Mawuli Semevo has tragically passed away following complications from a domestic fire accident. He died at the Ridge Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for severe burns sustained in the incident that occurred at his Adenta SSNIT Flats residence on Friday, February 7.

According to reports, the fire started in the hall while Semevo was asleep in the bedroom. In an attempt to escape, he ran through the flames, managing to reach outside before collapsing. Neighbors rushed him to the hospital, where doctors initially estimated a critical 21-day survival window. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on February 20, just 13 days after the accident.

His passing was confirmed by actor and Image Bureau’s Creative Lead, George Quaye, who paid tribute to Semevo’s remarkable talent, describing him as a performer who brought life to every role.

Mawuli Semevo was celebrated for his versatility on stage and screen, starring in films like Harvest at 17, A Stab in the Dark, Escape of Love, Like Cotton Twines, and The Good Old Days: The Love of AA. He also played Baba Fakunle in The gods are not to blame, an adaptation of Ola Rotimi’s classic, staged at the National Theatre last year.

His death marks a great loss to the Ghanaian entertainment industry, leaving a legacy of unforgettable performances and an enduring impact on theatre and film.
