Saglemi Housing Project to Resume After Years of Delay

After years of stagnation, work on the Saglemi Affordable Housing Project is set to resume, according to Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, the Minister for Works, Housing, and Water Resources. He assured the public that efforts were underway to bring contractors back to the site.

Speaking during a visit to housing projects in Shai Hills and Ningo Prampram, the minister emphasized the government’s commitment to preventing future project delays. He stressed the importance of timely completion and warned contractors against missing deadlines.

The Saglemi project, initiated in 2012 under President John Mahama, aimed to provide 5,000 affordable housing units. However, it stalled in 2017 due to allegations of financial mismanagement. While legal battles followed, the current Attorney General has discontinued cases against former Minister Collins Dauda, clearing the way for work to continue.

To prevent similar issues in the future, the government plans to implement stricter project monitoring and explore alternative funding for stalled coastal defense projects in areas like Axim, Cape Coast, and Dansoman.
