The Eastern Regional branch of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) celebrated this year’s National Chocolate Day with a special focus on children, bringing joy to young patients at two leading hospitals in Koforidua—the Eastern Regional Hospital and St. Joseph Orthopaedic Hospital.
Led by Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, the initiative aimed to show love and care to children and their mothers by distributing chocolate bars to those admitted. As a former educationist, the minister emphasized her commitment to children’s well-being and pledged to address the expansion needs of healthcare facilities in the region.
Eastern Regional GTA Director, Dinah Adu-Owusu, highlighted the shift in focus from traditional Valentine’s Day celebrations to promoting chocolate consumption for its health benefits and as a way to boost domestic tourism. She expressed hope that the gesture would uplift both the children and their parents.
Hospital administrators, including Philemon Kofi Quansah of St. Joseph Orthopaedic Hospital and Dr. Foster Amponsah-Manu of the Eastern Regional Hospital, expressed gratitude for the thoughtful act, noting that such initiatives contribute to the healing process.
