Two teenagers accused of stealing gold and GH¢41,000 from a shop in Twifo Praso, Central Region, have been remanded as police investigate a possible larger criminal network. The suspects, both claiming to be 17 years old, appeared before the Assin Fosu District Court, which ordered their detention in juvenile cells until their next appearance on March 5, 2025.
Prosecutors suspect that the duo, who had been monitoring the gold shop for some time, were not acting alone. The girl initially claimed to be 15 but later changed her age to 17, while police believe her boyfriend may be older than he states.
The pair was arrested on February 16, 2025, after CCTV footage allegedly captured the girl stealing from the shop and later distributing the money among accomplices, including her boyfriend. The girl was apprehended in Egyaa near Anomabo, while her boyfriend was arrested separately following a tip-off. Police are still searching for more suspects and urging anyone with information to come forward.
