The High Court in Koforidua has found Akwatia MP Ernest Yaw Kumi guilty of contempt of court for defying an interim injunction that barred him from being sworn into Parliament.
Despite the court’s directive, Kumi disregarded the ruling, leading to his conviction. The judge has since issued a bench warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear for sentencing. Attempts by the Minority Caucus to explain his absence with an official letter were rejected by the court.
This ruling follows an ongoing legal dispute challenging his legitimacy as a legislator.
