Paediatric Society Calls for Free Ambulance Service for Children

The Paediatric Society of Ghana (PSG) has urged the government to introduce free ambulance services for children, especially those under five, to improve healthcare accessibility and save lives.

In a communiqué issued after its 31st Annual General and Scientific Meeting in Accra, PSG emphasized the need for universal healthcare coverage for all children, regardless of their location or financial status. They called for more investment in healthcare infrastructure, digital innovation, and workforce development to strengthen child healthcare in Ghana.

The society also highlighted the urgent need to improve adolescent health services and integrate artificial intelligence, telemedicine, and telehealth into the healthcare system for better child healthcare delivery.

Additionally, PSG condemned illegal mining (galamsey), citing its harmful effects on children, including child labor, chemical poisoning, and birth defects. They urged the government, traditional leaders, and stakeholders to take decisive action against the menace.

PSG expressed its readiness to collaborate with the government to increase the number of paediatricians and enhance paediatric services in every district.
