A tragic incident occurred in Bibiani Zongo, Western North Region, when a 19-year-old Senior High School student, Elisha Akanlawen, drowned in the Amponsah Dam.
Elisha, who reportedly lacked swimming experience, had gone to the dam with friends for a fun outing but struggled in the deep waters. Eyewitnesses say efforts to rescue him were unsuccessful.
Assembly Member for the Zongo Electoral Area, Mohammed Abdallah, confirmed that traditional rituals were performed before the victim’s body was retrieved. The body has since been transported to the Bibiani Government Hospital for preservation and further investigations.
Mr. Abdallah noted that this was not the first drowning incident at the dam and called for urgent measures, including fencing the area, to prevent future tragedies.
