North East Regional Minister Attacked, Vehicle Vandalized in Walewale

North East Regional Minister, Ibrahim Tia, has revealed that he was attacked, and his vehicle was vandalized at the Walewale Chief’s palace amid violent clashes in the area. The unrest, which involved a bus attack and arson, has left at least seven people dead and several others injured.

In response to the crisis, the Minister visited the hospital to support the injured and covered their medical bills. He later stopped at the Chief’s palace to brief him on the situation and discuss the newly imposed curfew. However, before he could proceed to console the bereaved families, an angry mob attacked him, holding him hostage for over two hours. A joint military and police intervention eventually rescued him.

The government has since imposed a curfew on Walewale and its surroundings to curb further violence.
