A 24-year-old illegal miner, Vitus Nsore, has been remanded by the Tarkwa District Magistrate Court for allegedly raping a 56-year-old woman in her home. The incident reportedly occurred on February 9, 2025, during a blackout caused by a heavy rainstorm. Nsore is said to have taken advantage of the darkness to break into the victim’s room, where he allegedly assaulted and raped her.
After the attack, he attempted to kill the woman, locking her inside and claiming he would return with a knife. However, the victim managed to escape through a window and called for help. Her children and community members later apprehended Nsore and handed him over to the police. The case has been transferred to the Western Central Regional Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) for further investigations, and the victim has received medical attention. Nsore is scheduled to reappear in court on February 28, 2025.
