Bushfire Ravages Yam Barns in Oti Region, Farmers Seek Urgent Support.

A bushfire has destroyed yet another yam barn in KpareKpare, a farming community within the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region, marking the fifth such incident in recent weeks. The devastating fire, which occurred on Monday, February 4, 2025, has left farmers in the area grappling with severe losses.

Eric Akwasi Asumadu, one of the affected farmers, shared his hardship with the Ghana News Agency, lamenting the difficulty of recovering from the loss of his entire yam stock. Several others, including Kwasia Anase Mensah, Tapo Nchaame, and Adjei Yaw Agbeviako, have also been heavily impacted, with significant financial losses as their barns were reduced to ashes.

The recurring bushfires have raised concerns among local farmers, who are urgently appealing to the Ministry of Agriculture, the government, and other stakeholders for assistance.
