Cancer Cases Surge by Over 33% in Ashanti Region in 2024.

The Ashanti region has seen a concerning increase in cancer cases in 2024, with an alarming rise of 33.60%, adding 4,553 new cases compared to 2023. The surge includes a sharp 92.12% increase in breast cancer and a 75.17% rise in cervical cancer. However, prostate cancer cases declined by 17.55%. Health experts blame late diagnoses, lack of awareness, and limited screening capacity for the trend. The Ashanti Regional Health Directorate is working on a campaign to raise awareness, improve healthcare infrastructure, and prioritize patient-centered cancer care.
