ActionAid Donates Desks to Bono Schools to Improve Learning.

ActionAid Ghana has donated 260 desks worth GH¢100,000 to four underprivileged schools in the Tain and Banda districts of the Bono Region. The donation, funded by Italian donors, aims to address the severe shortage of classroom furniture, which had forced some students to sit on the floor or lie on their stomachs to write.

The beneficiary schools include Hiamankyene Primary and JHS, Wiasekrom Basic School, and Bepoase Basic School in Tain, as well as Bofie Basic School in Banda. Three of the schools received 190 desks, while Bofie Basic got 70.

During the presentation in Nsawkaw, Bono Regional Programme Officer Kwame Afram Denkyira emphasized the dire conditions observed during ActionAid’s monitoring visits. He noted that many students were using kitchen stools and plastic chairs from home, while those without had to study on the floor.

ActionAid’s Country Director, John Nkaw, highlighted the organization’s commitment to quality education, stating that this donation would help reduce the furniture deficit and enhance learning. He also urged schools to maintain the desks for future students.

Deputy Tain District Coordinating Director, Frederick Yirkyio, commended ActionAid’s support and revealed that the government now plans to furnish newly built classrooms before handing them over to schools. He called on other NGOs to assist in addressing educational needs.

The schools expressed gratitude, saying the desks would significantly improve the learning environment and motivate students to stay in school.
