Afenyo-Markin Apologizes to Ablakwa’s Wife Over Vetting Remark.

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has publicly apologized to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs, and his wife after making remarks during a press conference that upset her. During the vetting process, Afenyo-Markin had alleged that Ablakwa was not originally scheduled for vetting and had been “smuggled in” with the help of Majority members. He also claimed Ablakwa’s wife was similarly brought into the vetting room, a statement that Ablakwa later said had deeply affected her.

Realizing the impact of his words, Afenyo-Markin took the opportunity during the vetting session to issue an unconditional apology, acknowledging that he would also feel hurt if someone made similar remarks about his own wife. His apology comes amidst ongoing political tensions between the Minority and Majority in Parliament regarding the vetting process.
